Ms. Huertas - Executive/Principal 

Mrs. Olvera - Special Education Coordinator / Site Lead


2022 will be Mrs. Olvera’s 9th year teaching and it is Mrs. Olvera’s fourth year at Valiente College Prep as the Learning Specialist Coordinator.  Mrs. Olvera was raised and attended school in Downey. Mrs. Olvera pursued her education at California State University Long Beach and received both her Bachelor’s Degree and Education Specialist Degree from there.  Mrs. Olvera’s teaching philosophy is that all students have the ability to learn and is dedicated to helping in the growth of all students regardless of current levels or abilities. In her free time Mrs. Olvera loves to spend time with her three sons ages 12, 9 and 7 years old.  Mrs. Olvera loves sports and being involved with her sons’ sports teams. Mrs. Olvera takes pride in ensuring that the environment in which students are learning is not only a safe place for the students but also is welcoming and encouraging. Mrs. Olvera is excited to work with your students both academically and socially to help them become strong, perseverant advocates in their community.

Ms. Rafferty - Director of Curriculum and Instruction 
Ms. Rafferty will be returning to her 4th year at Valiente!!! This is Ms. Rafferty's 7th year in education; her 3rd as an administrator.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maine as well as a Master’s Degree from CSULB. Ms. Rafferty will be the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. She will be coaching teachers throughout the year and helping with students' success. 
Ms. Baker - School Counselor
Ms. Baker is joining Valiente for her first year as the school's new Social and Emotional Learning Counselor. She is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton and Azusa Pacific University, earning her Bachelor's degree in Human Services with an emphasis in Mental Health and her Master's degree in Educational and Clinical Counseling. Ms. Baker has worked with students for three years and is so excited to bring counseling services to Valiente! Outside of education she has run a small business for five years and was a wedding photographer for twelve. In her free time Ms. Baker enjoys reading, hanging out with her dogs, going to the beach, and attending music events.
Mr. Martinez - School Operations Manager
Mr. Martinez is excited to join the Valiente family as the Operations Manager. Prior to joining Valiente College Prep, Mr. Martinez was an Office Coordinator at a charter school located in South Los Angeles. He is currently attending Rio Hondo College and will be transferring to CalState Fullerton to obtain his BA in Social Work. Mr. Martinez enjoys spending time with his family, friends and going on hikes. 
Ms. Najera - Community Involvement Specialist
Although I am new to the Valiente College Prep. family, I feel right at home, working alongside an awesome team! I have been working in education and have been a huge advocate for better education in our community for 20 years and enjoy seeing, not only our kids grow and succeed academically, but our parents learn too. I am excited to see what the future holds for all of us here at Valiente! My pass time outside of Valiente is enjoying time with my 2 boys, and love, love, love CRAFTING!!!

Ms. Hernandez - Administrative Assistant


Ms. Hernandez is from the Huntington Park / South Gate area. She is the proud mother of 3 grown children that all attended South Gate public schools. 4 grandchildren and mum to a lovable pup. She lives in South Gate. She previously worked as an Administrative Assistant at a High School for 9 years. She also was a school bus and metro city, bus operator.


Mr. Gamino - Administrative Assistant


Mr. Gamino will be returning for his 4th year as one of our Admin Assistants. He studied at California State University, Los Angeles where he received a Bachelors in Science: Business Administration. Currently, Mr. Gamino is a football coach at Downey High School and has volunteered as a coach in the South Gate community for the last 5 years, with the South Gate Aztecs Youth Football organization. Mr. Flores - Campus Aide
Mr. Flores is the campus aide for Valiente College Prep. I am from Paramount, CA. I have a little over a year of working in education. I received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Long Beach and I am currently enrolled for a master of science degree in sports psychology from Northcentral University. On my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing sports, and completing escape rooms. 
Mr. Ng - 8th Grade ELA/ELD Teacher 

Mr. Ng is a graduate from California State University of Long Beach. During his time there, he earned a bachelor's degree in English Education with an emphasis on creative writing. He is a proponent of the arts and has worked on a variety of projects ranging from playing guitar in local bands as well as having contributed illustrations and comics to CSULB's newspapers. As an educator, he focuses on cultivating critical thinking skills as well as social awareness that connects learning to the real world. He enjoys philosophy and bridges the gap between old-world ideas and progressive, modern ones. His ethos can best be described with his personal motto: "be kind and together we can change the world."

Mr. Mac - 8th Grade Science/History Teacher 
Mr. Mac: Born and raised in a small town near Santa Barbara, California, Mr. Mac was the first in his family to graduate from college with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of California, Irvine (UCI). Being the child of two immigrant parents, Mr. Mac has always pushed himself academically and saw education as an empowering route for himself and for his family. While in college, Mr. Mac specialized in the field of diversity and inequality. This will be Mr. Mac's second year teaching at Valiente and second year teaching 7th grade History (Social Studies) and Science.

Mrs. Gonzales - 8th Grade Math Teacher


My name is Deanna L. Gonzales and  I am entering my 21st year of teaching.  I have taught middle school math for 13 years.  I received my Bachelors from Cal State Los Angeles and cleared my credential at Mount Saint Mary’s University.

As your child’s teacher, I will strive to create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment to ensure that each and every student’s identity, presence, and values are included and welcomed in my classroom.  I believe in empowering students to believe they can solve and complete any problem presented to them.

Ms. Cruz - 7th Grade ELA/History Teacher 


Ms. Cruz is the 7th-grade History and English teacher at Valiente for the 2021-2022 school year. She grew up attending public school in Inglewood, California, part of the Lennox District. Ms. Cruz later pursued higher education at the University of California Irvine and received her Master’s in education from Loyola Marymount University.  Ms. Cruz was the first in her family to attend and graduate from a university. Ms. Cruz believes that every student can be successful when given appropriate and equitable education. She believes that it is her responsibility as an educator to instill the values of hard work, respect, compassion, and pride in her students as well as strive toward continuous improvement in an inclusive environment. 

Mrs. Reed - 7th Grade Math/Science Teacher 


Mrs. Reed graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies. She continued her education and received her Master's in Education along with her Multiple Subject Teacher's Credential. This will be Mrs. Reed's 9th year teaching and her third year with Valiente! She will be teaching 7th-grade math and science.

Coach Martinez - 5th-8th Grade Physical Education Teacher


My name is Coach (David) Martinez. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Fitness Direction from California State University Dominguez Hills. I have been married to my wonderful wife Monica for  5 years and we have one child named Danica who keeps us on our toes every day. I have a passion for coaching and physical fitness and look forward to this upcoming school year.

Ms. Bianchi - 6th Grade Math/Science Teacher 
Miss Bianchi is a sixth-grade Math and Science teacher. She has been teaching for 8.5 years. This will be her first year at Valiente and is excited to make it a great year. She attended Saint Xavier University in Chicago and has Multiple Subjects, Math, ESL, and SPED credentials. One of her favorite joys of teaching is when a student feels successful. Her goal is for each student to succeed both academically and socially/ emotionally in class. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, exercising, crocheting (still learning), and baking. 
Ms. Mendoza - ELA/ELD 6th Grade Teacher 
Hello all, my name is Ms. Mendoza and I am from the San Gabriel Valley. I have worked in education for 8 years and I love helping youth succeed. I went to Citrus College and transferred to Cal Poly Pomona where I earned my Bachelors of Arts in History as well as my credential. I have a passion for history and observing change and progression over time. I love hiking and camping. Bryce Canyon is my favorite National Park. I'm a big LA sports fan, GO DODGERS!
Mr. Maloney - 5th Grade Teacher 
Mr. Maloney is the 5th-grade Multiple-Subject teacher at Valiente for the 2021-2022 school year. He grew up in Carson, California and attended school in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. Mr. Maloney later pursued higher education at the University of California, Riverside earning his bachelor’s degree in history and received his master’s degree in history from California State University, Fullerton. He brings seven years of in classroom educational experience. His goal as a teacher is to develop a healthy classroom environment where everyone works together collectively to be the best student they can be both academically and socially. When he’s not teaching,   Mr. Maloney is an avid collector of vinyl records, loves watching documentaries, and enjoys playing board games with friends and family.
Mr. Wilt - RSP Teacher 
I am the Resource Specialist teacher for 5th and 6th grade at Valiente east campus. This is my fourth year teaching. I was born in Southern California. I went to college at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics. A fun fact about myself is that I was born on Friday the 13th. 
Ms. Cervantes - Enrichment Teacher 
Ms. Cervantes is our 6th-8th grade, Enrichment teacher. This is her first year here at Valiente College Prep and has worked in education for 5 years She Received her bachelor’s degree in Urban Learning from California State University-Los Angeles. Ms. Cervantes enjoys going on road trips and values time spent with her friends and family.  
Mrs. Cabrera - Instructional Aide
Mrs. Cabrera will be returning for her 3rd year at Valiente as one of our Teacher Assistants. She will be assisting teachers during the school year and helping around classes. She has her Associates in Science from Mount San Antonio College. She has previously worked with children for the past 6 years, preschool - 8th grade. She is excited for a new and awesome school year.

Ms. Rodriguez is an Instructional Aide at Valiente College Prep and has worked in education for 5 years. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, and graduated from UC Irvine with a bachelor's degree in psychology. I have a new puppy named Latte and we love to go on hikes.
